Developing my Logo

Font Testing 1:

This is my first try playing around with fonts. I used the 'T' button in Photoshop to create a text box, I then began trialling different fonts to see what styles I liked, I didn't change colours as I was focusing fully on just the font style. The first font in the top left corner is called Lucida Handwriting, it's a simple serif font with an italics style. I don't think I'd use this for my final logo as the font doesn't stand out enough and looks too plain. The font under it is called Stencil Std. This font is nice and bold, it reminds me of army styled writing and I think it's quite interesting. The font at the bottom is called Blackoak Std, it's a typical serif font, I used the effects tool and started testing out different strokes, for this I used a red, size 18 stroke and turned the font white to make the stroke pop out. I really like the idea of a stroke as it makes the text stand out more. The last font, in the top right corner is called Matura MT Script. It's a much modern twist on a serif font, I made it bold so it would stand out more, I quite like this font as it's a bit unusual. 

Font Testing 2:



This is my second time testing out fonts, but this time i focus more on my own logo style and I play around with colour. I chose to mainly focus on red and orange as those colours reminded me of food and also the orange is a slight link to Essex, reflecting the stereotype of fake tan. The font in the top right is Matura MT Script, it's the same as the one in the image above, the only thing i changed was the colour. I added an inside stroke. I made it a gradient from red to orange, as I liked the idea of those colours, I think it makes it stand out more. The font in the top left is Lucida Handwriting again, however this time i capitalised all the letters and changed the colour to an orange to red gradient, i preferred how that looked so I chose to develop it slightly further. The font under it is the more edited version. I made the original text bold and turned it white, I then added a size 10 stroke in the same gradient style as the previous font, to make it pop. I really liked this font as it stood out and looked quite interesting. The font under it is once again Stencil Std, I decided to use the same stroke again but this time I made it thicker by giving it a size 18. I feel like the thicker stroke worked really well with this font and I quite liked how it turned out. It gave me the same army styled look but with the pop of colour it seemed much more playful. The next font is called Forte. It's a San serif font, I made it bold and gave it the same gradient style but this time I put it on the inside with stroke size 32, so that it filled the whole thing. I'm not sure I like this font, it seems a little bit too plain. The last logo is also Blackoak Std. With this one I tried mixing it up a little bit. I decided to try the colour green, as it also relates to food. I changed the gradient to one that goes from green to white, making it a size 38 inside stroke, so that it filled the whole text. I didn't really like this, I feel like the font just didn't suit the gradient styled stroke. 

My Logo Design 1: 


This was my first logo which i drew by hand with a pencil and then went over it in a black marker. I then used a scanner to scan my drawing onto the computer so it was accessible for me to edit. 

I then opened up my image in Photoshop, made a new layer over my background and used the pen tool to begin tracing over my drawing, to make it look more professional. 

I started by tracing round the knife and then made a new layer for the fork, so that i could move each individually if needed, filling them both in black, so that they looked like silhouettes.



I then used the Elliptical Marquee tool in Photoshop to create a perfectly rounded circle, to be the plate. Once I was happy with he plate size, I used the stroke effect to make the first block of colour, to mark how big the plate outline will be and then I went and added another stroke onto that stroke in size 11 and made it black, filling the inside with a light cream colour. The black outline makes the plate stand out more against a plain background. I then used the ruler and lined it up with the knife and fork, deleting the rest of the circle left under it, creating a semi-circle. 

I then used the ruler tool again to mark out where I wanted to make a line for my logo to sit on. Once I made my line I used the text tool to make a text box. I used the Lucida Handwriting font, which I had previously experimented with, giving it that red to orange gradient stroke, filling the inside of it white, making the text stand out. I then roughly placed it 


This is how the logo turned out. If I choose this as my final logo I would probably fill the inside of the plate as it looks a little bit bare and I might try adding little leaves above the O's in 'food' to make them look like oranges.











My Logo Design 2:

I started of my using the ruler tool to mark out where my first straight line should be, I then used the pen tool to draw it and fill it in. 

I then went onto drawing the chef's hat. I used the pen tool to trace the top part first, filling it in white and then i drew the lines on each side separately, connecting them to the base line which i drew first. I then selected the top of the hat again and gave it a size 12 black stroke, so that it stood out against any sort of background.

Once I had done that, I used the ruler again to mark our where I would be making my next line, using the smaller lines from the chef's hat as a guide telling me where to stop, so that I left some space for the 'face'. 


I then used the pen tool again to make the 'face' of the chef, filling it in white. I then gave that section a size 12 black stroke, so that it would also stand out. 

I then added in the Lucida Handwriting font, giving it that same red to orange gradient stroke, so that it would stand out. I'd also want to add the leaves above the O's. 

This is the final logo. If I choose this as my final logo I would probably edit the 'face' and hat as they're not as symmetrical as I'd like them to be. I would probably also go back and fill the gap between the top part and lower part of the hat as I'm not sure If I like it being empty.
